Answer: In his westerns John Wayne normally carried a Colt Singl Action Army in .45 Long Colt, It was about the most powerful pistol of the period. Just realize that he was a big man. The level action rifles he used in westerns looked like toys when shot them. But all in all its not the gun, its the person behind it. I won't dis Clint Eastwood as I like his movies as well, but in westerns he also use the same pistol as John Wayne did. Check out John Wayne's movie "McQ" in which he carried an Ingram machine pistol in .45ACP
